Where does provider abrasion come from?

Each plan a practice works with runs its own attestation, roster and outreach process. A busy practice may get many requests a month asking for overlapping information.

Why does it matter for data quality?

Overloaded offices respond late or not at all, so the data plans collect this way goes stale. The CAQH and AMA white paper on directories describes this burden.

How can it be reduced?

By verifying what can be checked from other evidence, and only contacting a practice about the records that look wrong.
